Arthur “Art” Crum, 89, of Missoula, Montana, passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2025, of natural causes.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Grahm Crum, and his mother, Hazel (Seaman) Crum.
Born in Missoula on February 22, 1936, Art spent his entire life in the community he loved. At just 14 years old, he became the Marble Champion of Missoula, an early example of the determination that would define his life. He went on to attend the University of Montana, graduating with a degree in business. Following his education, Art proudly served as a navigator on jets with the National Guard.
In 1962, he married the love of his life, Barbara (Joost). Together they built a life of devotion, raising a family filled with love, strength, and faith. Art later took over his father’s company, Crum Construction, where he dedicated decades of hard work and craftsmanship. His efforts not only grew the business but ensured its legacy would be carried on by his sons.
Outside of his work, Art had many passions. He enjoyed painting, puzzles, coin collecting, and reading. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he lived his life with humility, generosity, and unwavering faith.
Above all, Art cherished his family. He was deeply proud to watch his grandchildren graduate, begin their careers, and start families of their own. One of his greatest joys was meeting his great-grandson, a moment he treasured beyond words. He never missed a chance to speak with love and pride about his family.
In July 2025, as his health declined, Art’s greatest wish was to spend his final days at home with his beloved wife, Barbara. With courage and determination, he was granted that gift, passing peacefully by her side. He will be remembered as a hardworking, kind, and devoted man whose legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
Art is survived by his wife, Barbara Crum; his children, Joseph G. Crum Sr. (Ruby), Vicki Hoiland (Jim), and Joseph Crum Jr. (Kelly); his grandchildren, Delaney Crum, Shanice Davidson, and Travis Hoiland; his great-grandchildren, Lilly Crum and Jax Crum; and his sister, Mahala Healey of St. George.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3201 Bancroft St., Missoula, MT. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 7405 Mullan Rd., Missoula, MT.
