Arthur Douglas Moran

Missoula - Doug Moran passed away on July 12, 2026, after more than five months of illness. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and is now in the arms of his Lord and Savior.

Doug was born on March 29, 1936 in Malta, Montana to Matthew and Margaret Moran, who have preceded him in death. He comes from a large family of siblings, some of whom survive him and several who have preceded him.

At an early age, Doug spent three to four years in the Twin Bridges orphanage before he and his two brothers were taken in by their aunt and uncle in Glasgow, Montana.

He graduated as a “Scottie” from Glasgow high school, then moved to Missoula to work with his father in road construction. He later attended the University of Montana for a year and met Donna Karlin at a roller skating rink.

Donna and Doug were married June 29, 1956. Their daughter Julie was born on May 20,1959 while they were living in their 1st home they built. Lisa was born June 27, 1963.

After marriage, Doug began working for Donna’s father, Emil Karlin in home construction and went on to become a master electrician. After Emil Karlin retired, Doug continued working with his brother-in-law, Bud Wornath, who had taken over the family construction company.

When construction work slowed, Doug took on many different jobs before working on his boilers license. He then worked at Big Sky High School where he retired after nearly 20 years.

Doug proudly served for ten years in the National Guard, he was once called into action for a riot at Deer Lodge Prison.

In retirement, Doug stayed active by volunteering at the Missoula Food Bank and St Pats Hospital. He also worked part time for his nephew,Mike Wornath at Burlington Square, a senior apartment building in Missoula where he was know as “Uncle Doug.”

Doug, Donna, and their girls were active members of Bethel Baptist Church. His Christian faith was an important part of his life and remained a source of strength and comfort until the end.

Doug enjoyed skiing and golfing. He patiently taught his daughters how to ski and continued golfing with the Geritol League every Thursday, for as long as his body allowed.

In the past years, Doug struggled with asthma and congestive heart failure. In early 2026 he developed pneumonia and spent months in and out of hospital and rehabilitation care.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife Donna; his daughter Julie Leverette and grandson Ryan Leverette; his daughter Lisa Miller, her husband Pete, and granddaughter Andrea Miller. Doug was preceded in death by Julie’s husband, Daniel Leverette, and Doug’s many siblings.

Although Doug has departed from his earthly life, his legacy of faith, love and devotion continue to live on in his family and friends.
