Obituary for Elmer Schafer

Elmer Schafer went home to be with his Lord on August 31, 2016. He died in his home, after an extended illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Elmer was born on July 1, 1932 on the Schafer homestead, near New Leipzig, ND to Karl and Philipina Schafer. He met his wife, and the love of his life, Agnes Friesz, also of New Leipzig, as a young man, and followed her and her family to Missoula, MT in 1952.
Elmer and Agnes were married at the New Leipzig Baptist Church in September, 1953. Elmer worked in the Missoula sawmills for 42 years and retired in 1992. They have three children, Connie (Dale) Kalberg of Bigfork, Bonnie (Keith) Doll of Havre, and Gene (Janet) Schafer of Missoula.
He was a longtime member of the Bethel Baptist Church, and served as head usher for many years. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the Christian Life Center.
He was preceded in death by 10 siblings and 1 great grandson. He is survived by his wife and their three children, his twin brother Ernest (Lorraine), 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. There will be a graveside service at 10 am on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, followed at 1:30 pm by a memorial service and reception at the Christian Life Center.
