Obituary for Helen May Watson Shurr

Helen Watson Shurr passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at home with her family. She was born to Donald Watson and Ermine Jane Weter in Redfield, South Dakota, on May 29, 1926. When she was 11 her family moved to Browning. Helen graduated from Browning High School where she was valedictorian, cheerleader and in the band.

She married Edward J. Shurr in Kalispell in 1947. They raised three children Don, John and Elizabeth. Helen was active in several family businesses, which included Shurr Cheverolet, The Economy Shop, and a 76 Union Service Station. She was active in The Eastern Star, The Methodist Church and participated in many civic functions. In 1972 the family moved to Missoula. She enjoyed the outdoors and going to Grizzly basketball and football games.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Edward, sisters Vera Dean House (Wesley), Donna La Sorte (Frank), parents Donald and Ermine Jane.

She is survived by sons Don in Missoula, John in Everett, Washington, and Elizabeth (Doug) Driggs of Las Vegas, Nevada, grandchildren Stephen and Chel Driggs, Hillary and Johnny Maas, Jennifer and Bobby Calderwood, David Driggs, and Sarah Driggs. Great-grandchildren Kevin Calderwood, Zoey Driggs, James Calderwood, Charity Driggs, Jack Maas, Vincent Driggs, Elle Calderwood, Sophie Maas.

Helen was loved by all who touched her life and will be greatly missed. Her life will be celebrated at a later date.
