ALBERTON ~ Helen Louise Yarnall, age 87, passed away peacefully around noon on May 16, 2026, at the Family Ranch surrounded by her husband, children and their spouses, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Helen was born in Superior, Montana, on February 11, 1939, and was raised at the Family Ranch, originally homesteaded by her grandfather in the early 1900s. The ranch remained close to her heart throughout her life, and she was grateful to spend her final days there, surrounded by family.
While attending school in Bozeman, Montana, Helen met the love of her life, Russell Yarnall. They were married on June 27, 1959, and shared nearly 67 wonderful years together filled with love, faith, family, and adventure.
Helen pursued her education in Bozeman, Dillon, and Missoula, Montana, where she earned her degree as a medical technologist. She dedicated many years to her profession, caring for others through her work in the medical field.
After retirement, Helen and Russ spent many memorable years traveling throughout the United States, creating cherished memories along the way. Later, they enjoyed life as snowbirds in Southern California, Almar Acres for 25 years before eventually returning home to Montana Every spring
Helen devoted herself to her community and service organizations throughout her life. She served as Worthy Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls, was a leader of the Methodist Youth Fellowship group, and was a longtime member of the Eastern Star.
Among the many things Helen loved most were spending time with her family and friends, gardening, horses, winemaking, puzzles, golfing, and caring for her hummingbirds each spring and summer.
Helen is survived by her loving husband, Russell Yarnall; her children Dennis Yarnall and wife Mary Yarnall, Kathleen Murphy and husband Thomas Murphy, Edward Yarnall and wife Sally Yarnall, and adoptive daughter Chris Matt. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Helen will be remembered for her gentle and kind spirit, quiet strength, unwavering devotion to family, and the love she shared so generously with everyone around her. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she influenced and the family she treasured so deeply.
A memorial service will be held at the Family Ranch on May 30, 2026, at 2pm.
Arrangements are under the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory in Missoula.
