Obituary for Jack Gerald Jurgens

Jack Gerald Jurgens of Missoula, Montana passed away June 7, 2017.
He was born on July 29, 1923 to Arthur Jurgens and Ora Lee (nee
Collins) Jurgens in Glasgow, Montana. He attended school in Ronan,
Montana. He joined the US Army before high school graduation. He served
with honor as an amphibious tank commander in World War II. He served in
New Guinea, Southern Philippines, Luzon and Borneo. Among the military
honors he received were AMPH track Mechanic 837, Qualified as Marksman
Carbine, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze
Service Star, Victory Medal, American Theatre Service Medal and Asiatic
Service Medal.
His service was also recognized in 2013 when he went to Washington DC as
a member of the Big Sky Honor Flight with his daughter and namesake,
Jacqueline Jurgens.
He married Donna Lee Boyer in 1943 who passed away in 2013. He is survived by his
four children, Adam Edgar Jurgens of Missoula, La Lonnie L. Strait of Las
Vegas, Nevada, Connie L. Williams of Ogden, Utah and Jacqueline Jurgens of
Missoula and four grandchildren and six great grandchildren and one great,
great grandchild.
Jack was employed by the White Pine and Sash Company in Missoula and
later at Horner Waldorf where he retired. In addition, he and Donna raised
their family on a farm in Arlee, Montana which he maintained as well. When
he retired, he enjoyed traveling with Donna, golfing, fishing and spending
time with his children and grandchildren and his many friends.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service for Jack will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday June 13, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Condolences for Jack’s family may be left at www.sunsetfuneralhomecemetery.com
