Lolo

LOLO ~ Joseph Daniel Guay passed away April 5, 2025 at his home from natural causes.

Joe was born on August 28, 1957 in Butte, Montana to Dolores and Emil Guay. As a young boy he grew up in Butte and attended Greeley and Monroe Elementary school. Joe and the family moved to Missoula where he finished grade school at Lewis and Clark Elementary. Joe went to Sentinel High school and in 2019 Joe graduated from the University of Montana as a Paralegal.

At the age of 19 Joe enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. Joe was trained as a Power Generator Equipment Operator/ Mechanic. Joe received an Honorable Discharge out of the Service.

Joe began his journey of working in the oil fields as a "roughneck" In Gillette Wyoming, Oklahoma and in Sidney Montana. Working the Derricks was dangerous and hard work, hot in the summers and cold in the winters and Joe was proud to do the job. He met a lot of friends during his stint in the oil fields and some were still friends today.

Joe put his roots in Missoula and has worked many places but his most recent as a Caregiver. There were many people he has helped or took care of along the way, Joe enjoyed every minute of it, that was his life's work, he needed that.

Joe was an amazing musician mastering many instruments. His highlight was playing his guitar and enjoyed playing for his family and friends. Joe has met a ton of friends along the way through his childhood, his music, his Rainbow Family, his Caregiving and through his Reiki and whatever Joe was involved in.

Joey said "Don't Cry for me when I am gone, for I have lived." And lived it he did! On his own terms, on his own time frame, and with the free spirited, Hippie lifestyle he was born to. Anyone who met him saw his easygoing and solitary demeanor. However, if you engaged him in conversation on just about any subject, you got an education on that subject. He was a walking book of knowledge and that will be greatly missed! Or Joey might not say much of anything and just hang out and play his guitar.

Joe had a heart of gold. He would do anything to help you if you needed it no matter what. Even if you didn't need his help, he did it anyway. Joe never had kids, but he had many Nieces and Nephews that meant a lot to him. He would help them anyway he could, and he loved them all too.

For quite a while Joey has been showing up at Mom's house on almost a daily basis. He would often bring food and always brought company and spiritual conversations which my mother always looked forward to.

Joe was Preceded in death by his Father Emil Guay, Gramma and Grampa Marjorie and Lenard Wolverton, Sister Karen Guay, Sister Louise Guay and Brothers in-law Al Andrus and Marty Preston, and Step Dad Maynard Baker.

Survivors include his Mother Dolores Hammock; Siblings Emily Milstead and Sheldon Burt, Patty Lester, Tim Guay, Ann Guay and Kevin Ingalls, Lee and Marty Guay, Lori Preston and Merl Taylor, Bridgett and Jim Petersen, and Mark Guay.

Joey you will be missed so much by so many people that includes family and friends. We take great comfort knowing that you are with Anica, Karen, Louise, Al, Marty, your Dad Emil, Gramma and Grampa, Maynard and many friends and God!
