Joyce Caroline Baughman

MISSOULA ~ Joyce Carolyn Baughman (née Pickens), born on October 16, 1940, in Missoula, Montana, passed away on July 30, 2025, at St. Luke’s Extended Care in Montana. She was 84 years old.

Joyce grew up in Missoula, where she attended elementary school and later Missoula County High School. With a passion for the arts, she pursued further education at the Minneapolis Art Institute, earning a certificate in advertising and related art.

After knowing one another for only thirty one days, Joyce married John Samuel Baughman on June, Friday the 13th 1958. Together they raised a daughter, Linda and two sons, Wade and Dennis.

Throughout her life, Joyce embraced her role as a devoted stay-at-home mother. She found joy in raising her children and nurturing her family with love and care. Her talents extended far beyond the home—she was an avid bowler and a gifted artist who expressed herself through painting and chainsaw carving. Joyce also had a knack for craftsmanship, building furniture with skill and dedication. Alongside her husband John Baughman, she played an active role in their antique business that they owned and ran for twenty-five years before retiring. Joyce’s legacy lives on through her loving family: daughter Linda Fernando (Pri); sons Wade Baughman (Jamie) and Dennis Baughman (Tawnie); grandchildren Sherine Blackford (Mark), Sherika Fernando, Nick Baughman (Amanda), Taylor Sanchez (Brendon), Brady Baughman, and Carter Baughman (Maura); great-grandchildren Selah and Loic Blackford, Caleb and Kamryn Sanchez, and Gunner Baughman; sister Beverly Hiday; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Baughman; parents Gerald and Esther Pickens; and sisters Geraldine Caloure and Virginia Cornelius.

Joyce’s life was marked by creativity, dedication to family, and a quiet strength that touched all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 23, 2025, at 01:00 PM at the Ronan City Park Pavilion, 127 Main St SW Ronan, MT.

Arrangements are under the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory in Missoula.
