Missoula

MISSOULA ~ Linda Jeanne Hill Sadler lived a life rich in education, service, faith, friendship and flowers.

Linda was born June 22, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the Rev. Paul Deane Hill and Alice Augusta Woodson-Hill. She passed away on October 16, 2026, surrounded in love by her family.

She spent her formative years in Yakima, Washington, on the family orchards and carried throughout her life a special love for Cannon Beach, Oregon, and the memories created there with her extended family.

Linda graduated from Eastern Montana College in Billings with degrees in Special Education and Elementary Education and later earned a master’s degree from University of Montana.

She devoted 42 years to education in Butte, where she taught special education and English and touched the lives of generations of students. Her commitment to the community extended well beyond the classroom.

Linda was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ruth Chapter No. 2, and twice served as Worthy Matron. She was also initiated into the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Butte and was a member of Mu Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, a Teachers Honor Society, where she served as chapter president and later as Montana State President.

On August 11, 1990, Linda married James Henry “Jim” Sadler in Missoula.

Following her retirement in 2006, Missoula became Linda and Jim’s full-time home, and Linda’s commitment to service and fellowship continued. She remained active in Alpha Delta Kappa, the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and Daughters of the Nile, as well as the Missoula Red Hat Society.

Linda was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Missoula and valued the fellowship of its congregation.

Gardening and flowers were among Linda’s great joys. She and Jim created a beautiful garden together and treasured the friendships they developed through the Missoula Garden Club and other horticultural organizations. Linda served as President of the Montana Federation of Garden Clubs from 2015 to 2017 and was also active in the Missoula Rose Society, Missoula Iris Society, Five Valley Dahlia and Glad Society. She enjoyed participating in flower shows throughout Montana and sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with fellow gardeners.

Linda also had a gift for staying connected with the people she loved. Her handmade cards became a special way of celebrating birthdays, holidays, friendships and the many relationships she treasured throughout her life.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Paul Deane Hill and Alice Augusta Woodson-Hill; her stepson, Aaron Sadler; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by her loving husband, Jim Sadler; her stepson, Andrew Lesofski (Emelyn); her grandson, Henry Lesofski; and many extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by her friendship, generosity and service.
