MISSOULA ~ Phyllis Ione Mossberg Fite, 91, of Missoula, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025 in Missoula.
She was born May 5, 1933 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Eugene and Anna (Johnson) Mossberg.
She moved to Missoula, Montana when she was eight years old. She went to grade school at Willard School and then graduated from Missoula County High School (now Hellgate High School) in 1951.
Phyllis worked part-time at F.W. Woolworth Store, eventually working her way up to head Bookkeeper for several years.
She married Meredith Fite in 1953. Eventually, Phyllis left her job to stay home and raise her three daughters.
Meredith joined the fire department part-time and retired as the City Fire Marshall.
They eventually bought Hobby Town and ran it for several years. Phyllis then worked in retail for a while.
Phyllis had volunteered at the Willard School Library while the girls were in school there. She also volunteered weekly in the office at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for 27 years.
She is survived by three daughters, Janel (Jerry) Bicha, Karen (Dale) Denny and Cheryl (Andy) Morrison; four grandchildren, Melissa (Roger) Horn, Jonathan Bicha, Dustin (Casey) Denny, Michael Denny; five great-grandchildren, Gage and McKayla Horn, Rylan, Peyton and Carter Denny; one step daughter, Melanie Dowling and nieces, Linda and Julie.
Per Phyllis’s request, private family services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory in Missoula.
