Richard Bielawski

March 4, 1971 — April 11, 2026

HUSON ~ Richard Mark Bielawski “Rick” was born on March 4, 1971, in Arlington Heights, IL to Suan and Edward Bielawski. Rick had the pleasure of having three older siblings, Katherine, Matthew, and Theresa ready to serve as instant role models who affectionately taught “Ricky” the ways of the smart -Alec. When Rick was two, his mom remarried John Appelt, which would eventually lead to the family moving from the suburbs of Chicago to the forests of Western Montana, when he was seven. That same year, Rick was officially dubbed an older brother when his sister, Louisa, was born. Rick attended Frenchtown schools from second grade until his graduation in 1990. During his time at Frenchtown Rick stole the show with his kindness, congeniality, humor, and at times to the dismay of his teachers, unsurpassed wit and sarcasm. Rick loved to bring humor and levity to every situation and without fail succeeded admirably. Growing up in the forest cultivated Rick’s love of nature, animals, hiking, and adventure, which manifested later on in life, when he would brave numerous hikes with his sister, Theresa, in various national parks in Montana and California.

Rick’s affinity for nature also complimented his natural prowess for the creative arts. From a young age, Rick created several timeless paintings and drawings, many with wildlife as the focus, but he also used these gifts to express his love for history specifically American Military History. His love of history and creative persona culminated in the authorship of his novel, “Christmas 1938.” Rick also channeled his creativity by immersing himself in comedic, dramatic, and improvisational performing arts in his adolescence and beyond.

In 2007, even amidst a lifetime of learning challenges, Rick earned his bachelor’s degree in creative writing from the University of Montana.

In 2011, while living in Northern California near Theresa and Louisa, Richard was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease, the neurological condition to which he lost his biological father. Rick endured the physical and cognitive consequences of the disease for several years, while still serving as a brother to his sisters and uncle to his niece and nephew. In 2018, Rick returned to Montana to support his family while John faced cancer until December of 2019, when he passed away. The debilitating effects of Huntington’s Disease required Rick to live in assisted care for the last six years of his life. During this time, his mother remained incredibly nurturing and devoted to her son to ensure Rick knew he was loved and cared for every single day.

In May of 2025, Rick was able to reunite and gather with his mother, siblings, a treasured Aunt and cousin, nieces, nephews, and many family friends to celebrate his mother’s birthday. This was a joyful day for all to gather.

On April 11, 2026, Rick was called home to the Lord when complications from Huntington’s Diseases prevented his body from fighting off a virus. We rejoice that his body and mind have been restored by his Lord and Savior.

Richard is proceeded by his father and stepfather, (Ed and John) his sisters (Kimberly and Katherine) his Godmother (Carolyn) and his Grandparents (Richard and Louise). He is survived by his mother (Susan), his siblings (Matthew) and wife (Charley) (Theresa) and (Louisa) and husband (Shannon), as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

In the midst of a life full of trials and hardships, Richard always aimed to bring joy and laughter to those around him. All who knew him loved him as he was personified by quick wit, a joyful spirit, lightheartedness, and his legacy will be one of beams, grins, laughter, faith, courage, creativity, protection, compassion, endurance, love, and perseverance.

The family is planning for a remembrance celebration in August, details are forthcoming.

Arrangements are under the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory in Missoula.
