Obituary for Ruby Langel

Aug. 7, 1925 – Feb. 6, 2016

MISSOULA – Born in Rudyard to George A. and Anna N. (Lambott) Peebler, she was the eldest of five children. Her early years were on the Peebler family farm near Rudyard, where she graduated from high school. She then lived in Kalispell with her parents and siblings.

She married Duaine C. Langel in 1945 and continued to live in Kalispell while Duaine served in the Army during World War II. After his discharge, they made their home and farmed south of Rudyard until 1958 when they purchased the Selmyhr place north of Rudyard on Little Sage Creek. They also maintained a home in Rudyard until moving to Chester in 1968, where she worked as the bookkeeper for Chester Implement. She and Duaine retired in 1988 and moved to Missoula in 1990 where she resided until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband Duaine and sister Betty Deshazer of Libby. She is survived by her children, sons Ken (Chris) of Lolo, Roger (Resa) of Post Falls, Idaho, and Craig (Ellen) of Missoula; and daughters Kathleen Pelc (Bill) of Dillon and Laurie Clark (Gary) of Missoula. She is also survived by sisters, Marge Williams and Sharon Reynolds of Kalispell; brother, Larry Peebler of Rudyard; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mom loved gardening and somehow coaxed beautiful flowers to grow in the sometimes harsh environment of north-central Montana. She was a cook’s cook, whose meals were a memorable experience not only for her family but for friends and strangers alike. Ruby had a love for reading and music, which she passed on to her children. She also had a life-long love of keeping journals and documenting family history. She had collected information over the years and researched the genealogy of her family tree. In her retirement, she used this information to write a family history for each branch of the family and shared them with family members.

Mom was always a polite and proper lady, demonstrating traditional values throughout her life. Her gentle manner and kindness to all will be missed by everyone who knew her.

The family will have a private ceremony to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula, Missoula Children’s Theatre or a charity of your choice.

Condolences and memories may be left for the family at missoulafuneralhomes.com. Sunset Memorial Funeral Home is assisting the family.
